About us

Activities and Facilities

We aim to make the best use of the facilities available to us, including:

Gym hall - used once a week for large apparatus and gross motor activities such as Basic Moves.

Outdoors - We aim to take our learning outdoors every day.  Outdoor space can be used for a variety of curricular activities, exploration, art, investigation of materials and nature, construction, problem solving, team games and physical activity.  We encourage outdoor play regardless of the weather, and therefore provide waterproof suits and wellies.  In the summer we would ask you to make sure your child is suitably dressed for outdoor play, ie suncream and hat.

Nursery - the nursery room is the main centre of nursery activities and offers a basic provision for all curricular aspects.  The children have time for freeflow play and are encouraged to choose, plan and make informed decisions in their play.  Observations and feedback from children are reflected in our planning, which focuses on children’s interests in order to promote active learning.

Lounge -  at times we work in small groups with a key worker, e.g. story time, circle time, music and movement.

Why play is important for our children

People often think that children in Nursery are “just playing”, but play is children’s work. Young children learn very naturally through play. In their play for example, they may find out about materials, use and develop language, act out situations, ask questions, solve problems, look for information in books, make friends, learn rules, read stories etc. Staff support children by observing them at play. They will stretch children in their play by offering ideas, materials or vocabulary, by asking questions, setting challenges or by helping to explain by showing how things can be done. The staff are also aware when it is better not to join in and step back.

Snack and Toothbrushing

Children will be offered a healthy snack in line with our Healthy Schools Programme. A contribution of 25p per session is requested for this, please pay weekly. Children are encouraged to serve themselves and others, in order to develop independence.  If your child has specific dietary requirements or allergies, these should be indicated on their registration form.

Children will be encouraged to brush their teeth after snack as part of our Healthy Schools Programme. They will be provided with their own toothbrush and we receive regular visits from Children’s Dental Health Service to support this practice.  Should you have any questions about this please speak to staff.
